When you ride, try to think what changes (if anything) after 10 minutes. Is this when you start working on a contact? Asking for a higher frame? Sitting deeper in the saddle? Starting canter work? Etc.
he is rather compact and has a naturally high head carriage. we start off lovely and he is long and low in walk and trot. i do admit i start off relaxed and as we get worked in i become more serious and maybe that is transferring to him and he is sensitive to it and so is evading my aids because they are to much for him? My old horse was a very serious school master type who would go and happily do hard schooling for an hour and did not want to hack and would not jump.. i am thinking that maybe I need to change my mind set with my new boy and understand that he is not like my old horse and needs more fun when schooling (more pole work to think about) ect.. and he switches on when jumping..
maybe this could be a learning curve for me and an opportunity to learn more about him as we are still getting to know each other
First port of call is in pain? (check everything, teeth, back, tack, feet, feed etc).
Or is he bored? If he's ok out hacking then this might be it!
What are you doing in the school with him? I would be bored just going round myself my arab and ex tb liked to be interest in something 'all the time'. (seriously ALL THE TIME).
turns, transitions, circles, maybe get some dressage test sheets if you need ideas? If you let him get away with it once it might have now formed into a habit...
After 10 mins do you then change his outline? Ie ask him to work in a higher frame??
If so I would still suspect saddle despite it being checked recently. We all know from experience even the most qualified and recommended saddlers can still get it wrong.
I notice this thread dates back to August. How are things now? I've not read all the posts but it does occur to me that he might just be testing the boundaries a bit.
