can anyone tell me how to work out stridings fo showjumping a 14.2 pony

i dont understand alot of the things that i have read :s

but i really need to be able to know roughly how many strides between a double so i can make sure i collect her enough etc... and dont fall off!!

if anyone can give me any advice that i can understand i would be very grateful, as i normally dont count strides :L
but i messed the last double up i jumped at a competition so think i should start trying, even though wilma does most of it for me!!!

thank you

cool

when i set out a double the other day i had

jump half a stride for landing then 8 of my strides and then half a stride for take of

and she did three canter strides in that gap

but i think i stride out too far maybe, im 5'6ish

should i be doing normally walking paces?

x

Normal walking pace. 7 human strides (fair size). I am 5'4 and really stretch for the 7. This is the usual competition striding (or how it measures when I walk it, and what I have been taught). As I say in comp. riders. It really depends on the horse strides whether they will make the distance or not, but if the pony is moving forward properly and has a fairly decent stride then it should make it. Sparky, my old 13.3 had no trouble when moving forward enough

If not they you may find they will chip in 2 but to get 3 you must have huge strides
