Hey guys
So as you all know I have a stunning little homozygous palomino who I absolutely adore. Lately though his eyes have really started tearing - at first I thought it might be irritation from all the flies we're having lately, but it kept watering/tearing even after he wore a fly mask for about a day. I got the vet out (I'm one of those owners that get the vet out for ANYTHING). The vet explained to me that he has "grey eyes" and that it was a common thing for horses with the dilute colour gene (hope I'm explaining this right and not getting muddled up myself) - he says that this unfortunately means that my horse's eyes will forever be more irritable than those of a horse without the gene and that age will definitely make it worse. He now has to wear a fly mask whenever he is outside so that the sun's light wont bother his eyes or the dust - his tearing has now completely gone away since we've been keeping his eyes shaded and away from the sun.
I was wondering if anybody else has some experience with "grey eyes"? The vet that examined my horse is world renowned so I trust him 100% but does anybody have any extra info on it? Could anybody explain it further to me? What would you guys do if you were in my situation?
