Confused - points and online dressage

Hi :)

I'm wanting to compete my loan horse, firstly do some online tests then see how we do.
He's competed to AM with 232 points, and I've never competed. We don't want to downgrade him so I'm a tad confused at the level I can compete at.

Do his points matter in online classes, or is it a completely separate thing? His owner wasn't sure because they're run under BD rules, whether I'd be allowed to take him intro/prelim.

Also if I were to take him out to a venue, would I be ok to compete him unaff?

Not sure if this makes sense, but if you could point me in the right direction, it'd be highly appreciated!

His points should only come into play if you decide to compete at Aff dressage unless the unaffiliated class states a limit on points which it occasionally may do, though usually its something along the lines of restricted; combination not to have been places 1st/2nd/3rd in any xx class - in which case you'll be fine as you are a new combination.

I don't know about online classes as i've never done them however if you are worried ring the organiser and just ask them, sure they would be happy to help
 
You can't downgrade any more with the new rules. They are complicated but you'd need to read the BD rule book available on their website to see whether you went into bronze, silver or gold at each level. At unaffiliated it's just down to if they put any restrictions on level competed at or points and if that is for the horse or as a combination of horse and rider. Same with online dressage.

Yeah with unaffiliated unless they put anything in the T&C's about points then you will be fine - so just check the website for the venue you want to go to, if you cant see anything maybe give them a call to triple check. No idea with online dressage, presume it will be similar to unaffiliated; again just check their T&C's.

Generally when a venue runs unaffiliated classes under BD rules its not really for the 'sections' side of it (as that doesnt matter, sections only apply for those wanting to qualify at BD for regionals/area festivals), they use the BD rules more for the dress code and tack rules so it is easier to get listed judges to judge your unaff classes as there are no real differences from the judges point of view with the horse and rider they see in front of them. When I worked at a dressage venue for a couple of years running the shows, our unaff classes never had sections (gold/silver/bronze), but were run under BD rules purely for the tack/dress code side of things.
