Hi just needed a little advise on what classes I could enter my welsh section A pony. The past few years I have entered my section A gelding in Welsh section A classes in hand he seemed to do extremely well although I myself have grown to big to ride him so last year he was broken to drive and as a result of his constant work both throughout the summer and winter it was easier to keep him fully clipped as his coat was constantly wet through.

My younger sister has now taken to riding him (although he is still driven on a regular basis) and would like to show him. Now this is where I’m finding it hard to which classes I can put him in. He has a very well kept long mane of which we really don’t want to pull or trim, his tail is of a good length and like I said he is fully clipped so he had no feathers. Clearly I would not be able to put him in any welsh classes because he is not of natural state but would I be able to try classes such as: open showing under 14.2 or working hunter pony classes. I understand that the mane must be tidy and neat and was wondering if a Spanish plait would be accepted?

Any advice would be very much appreciated a confused horse owner.

there are plenty of classes you can go in, just because he has been clipped through the winter dosn't mean his summer coat won't come back. m&m welsh classes ect would be fine too as most owners do trim them up to some extent and he still has a full mane, i can't really see a problem unless your wanting to go straight into county level at the beginning of the showing season

Hi thanx for your reply, the thing is he is clipped throughout the year because he is driven but his harness begins to rub when he has been sweating a while (all his tack is clean and well fitting) this is where im finding it hard. I have no idea of what i can enter him in fully clipped.
