I need help. I am getting confused and I need advice.

Sugar Beet and Oats. I was told by the school I ride at that oats is long term, high energy - akin to having porridge for breakfast for us two-legs - and that sugar beet was short burst, high energy - again for us like having a packet of crisps or bar of chocolate. Now I've just read somewhere that it is actually the other way round.

I'm getting my undies in a twist... which is it?

I think i disagree! Oats fed on their own are Slow release, exactly like porridge oats. Sugar beet is sugar - quick release, like jelly babies or a rype bannana to a runner!

There are two different kinds of sugar beet - molassed and unmolassed. Molassed is usually about 20% sugar (source of fast release energy), whereas unmolassed is 5% sugar. Both kinds also contain a lot of highly digestible fibre as well, though, which is a source of slow release energy.

Oats contain starch which is another fast release energy source, but also contain a little fibre.
