Are conifers poisonous when eating by horses?

I have heard from some people that they are, and some that they aren't......

My horse is now in a field with 2 other horses and it has a line of short conifers in it. My horse and one other literally stand there grazing on these trees for ages (until i shoo him away!)

Advice??

something i read said in the winter it is a nice change for horses to be given conifers insted of hay so i wasn't to worried as mine was munching away at a conifer but a friend told me that it is very poisonous and that they had known horses to die from eating them so i really have no idea!!!hope not cuz after they said that i fenced it off but she has demolished half the tree!!
