The horse is a pink skinned snowcap Appaloosa and I've had ongoing issues with her eyes since I've had her. Doubted my own judgement this morning after Sunday's red weeping eyes hadn't calmed down and got the vet out. No ulcers or any other nasties, but yet another bout of conjunctivitis. This is happening almost monthly now. Steroid stuff prescribed this time.

She lives 24:7 in a uv flymask, which I wash regularly. I just can't work out why it keeps coming back.

Any miracle cures out there? I'm paranoid that it'll turn into uveitis.

Not sure if this is helpful just my musings

Is it possible that it is not totally clearing up and then reoccurring

When when of mine had conjunctivitis I called the vet, was given tube of stuff but I was well aware that me putting in on day one was not the same as me putting it on on day four, the pony was sick of me and by day five it was all a bit hit and miss

I would put the fly mask in the washing machine daily to get it pristine and use a spare one :)
Other thing I used was boiled salty water around the eyes even if they were not gunky and only wiped once and then threw the cotton pad away and repeated with a clean one, vet also said cold wet tea bags work wonders for some

I believe many years ago before fly masks etc the old trick was to smear vaseline around the area, I found that in some very old horse book

I completely agree about hit and miss getting the stuff in - her left eye is a real battle. In fact I'm not convinced she has full sight in that eye even though there is nothing obvious to the vet on exam. I've just bought some expensive eye wipes (for humans) from Boots for her to make sure that I'm really keeping the eye clean.

I can give vaseline a go. Just wish the wind would die down because I think that's caused this flare up.

I had two concerns when reading about vaseline in the old horseman's book

1. I wouldn't use this method if sunny unless under a fly mask as wouldn't it help to burn the skin?
2. Wouldn't all the dust and dirt stick to the vaseline, mind you it did say smear it didn't say put it on with a trowel :)
