A few months ago when my horse was living out 24/7 we had a few days of high wind and my horse developed teary/gunky eyes. I kept her in and bathed for the next day then bathed twice a day until it cleared up.
Ever since then she has had a couple of reoccurring bouts of eye gunk (in both eyes but no tears this time) the first time I got an over the counter conjunctivitis treatment and it cleared up, about a month later it reoccurred but with some redness on inside of eyelids so vet came to look and prescribed gel which again after a week cleared the problem.
Now another few weeks later its started up again, back to gunk (but no redness yet) and I am back to bathing.
Anyone else had his problem? I don't know if it was triggered by original bout or whether that was coincidence but I am at a loss as to what could be causing it now after even vet treatment only stopped it for a few weeks?...

One of mine is suffering with similar. She had it last year and I am pretty sure it is caused by the wind.
Last week had vet out and she is in (which she hates) and having ointment until it has completely cleared.
My worry is that it will return once she is back out. She lives on a windy hill and if it recurs I think I am going to have to find a new yard for her.

I think you need to get the vet back in to check the eye do more thorough investigation ask if it is just conjuctivitus or could it be uveitis, it could be recurring uveitis or reoccurring ulcers, both of which need Atropine in and / or other medication and immediate to stop eye being damaged. This can happen with trauma , or catching the eye on twigs , many things can start it off.
i hope it is only conjunctivitis, but this can spread to other horses in the yard if it is. Either way do not delay the more attacks the harder it gets, Please seek vet advice. I have had two horses with uveiitis
