If I was looking into buying a couple of youngsters to meet the following criteria, what lines/breeding should I be looking for or avoiding.....?
* to make 14.2hh
* chunky type
* solid, kind Temperaments
* not looking for something performance bred
I guess I am looking for more old-fashioned pony lines, but I am a complete Connie newbie, so any advice would be appreciated ?
ETA happy to look in Ireland as well as mainland Britain

I import and sell Connemaras. There are many different breed lines you might consider. Make sure the HWSD is N/N or N/HWSD. Most Connemara’s are performance bred but some are built along more chunky lines than most! Feel free to pm me.

Mine’s grandsire is Earl of castlefrench and he seems to produce lovely more traditional ponies with fab temperaments. I read somewhere that a lot of westside mirah lines suffer with sweet itch. I went to try one who had it.

I looooove the tulira lines, I’m definitely off to their stud when I’m after my next one. I prefer the chunky, leg in each corner proper pony sized connies than the sporty bigger connies.

My pony of a lifetime was by Templebready Fear Bui and I don’t have enough good things to say about him. The best natured pony I’ve ever ridden, a successful working hunter pony at HOYS level and competed up to elementary BD. But mainly just the nicest, sweetest most generous pony.

Mine's a Riversdale connie, he was bred in Wales. He's a great pony! Mostly does what I ask but has a cheeky side too. I'm sure they were selling off a lot of youngstock recently but are still breeding a few.

Tulira ponies are bred in Ireland and later brought over to Gloucestershire.
We bought our 2 at 1.5 years, barely handled. Their transport from Ireland was arranged for us with someone the stud uses regularly. He was a kind and knowledgeable guy.
Tulira will also look for ponies.
We love our 2. They are an absolute joy to work with.
We wanted quality because these will be my last ponies and they are admired by everyone for their temperament and looks.

Dolly has the most amazing temperament. She is by Plume de Kezeg. Dolly's full sister is chunkier than Dolly and doing very well at WHP.

I have a pony with sparrow lines on his sires side and his mother was Kingtown Molly 2nd - Clifden supreme champion. My horse of a lifetime - evented to BE 100, riding club national championships show jumping, fabulous hack and an allround briliant person. Now 18prinny.jpg
Also have a lovely dun who has Gurteen lines with lots of Doon Paddy further back. He is a very laid back character but does everything especially dressage really well.813-DJN 73798 - emmpix social media.JPG

I’m getting very jealous of these tulira ponies. I follow them on fb and insta and I just love them so much. Need to get having these human babies out of the way so I can have my true baby, a connemara baby.

I also have this 4 year old by Kingstown Cavalier (CP) out of a coloured pony (by UNK)

LOL our two 4 year olds are by this stallion. Dams were sent to stud together and had natural coverings! Dams are half sisters so our two girls are 'three quarter' sisters. They are so different although both are delightful in their own ways!

My lad is a Moy Hazy Cove grandson. He's a gorgeous, chunky, laid back boy, with the kindest nature and a lovely personality. I'd have another in a heartbeat ?

We sent our mare to Moy Hazy Cove back in the day and the resulting filly was basically a dog in pony clothes. Sweetest pony ever.

I have a Connie x Draught cross and his connie side is all connie & draught side is all draught but his grandsire on the connie side is Templebready Fear Bui & I have to say any other pony I've met with him in the lines has also been just a sweetheart!
