I hope to soon be looking for a new youngster, where is the best place currently specifically looking at Connemara or similar type. The market has long changed in the past 10 years since I bought my last, so for quality and type, is there any breeders to look out for, is it worth heading over to Ireland?

There are still breeders in the UK but sadly not as many as there used to be. A good place to start would be to look on the BCPS website and see if you can find a stallion you like and then contact the studs in question.

Well it completely depends what type you want. Boggle came from performance connemara ponies, those ponies will set you back 20k easily now (not him, he was an overgrown delinquent). Bear came from a nice chap who breeds some lovely old fashioned stamps, Tomas Mcniff on fb https://www.facebook.com/Ashwoodsstables

And yes, I'd go to ireland. Anything already in the UK will be twice the price simply for getting it on the boat.

Also check breeding lines for HWS or be prepared to get any prospective purchase tested.
Connemaras have had to be tested for HWS before registration for a few years now although there may be some unscrupulous dealers trying to hide the test results. The status of stallions and mares is easy enough to find out about on the various society data bases.
