Yes adults can show Connies, there are loads of M&M classes you can do as well as the M&M worker classes. There are no age limits on the ponies however you may find the younger ones get placed higher, that will depend on the judge on the day usually.
Adults can show them. There would be ridden and in hand classes for large Mountain and Moorland and specifically Connemaras at the bigger shows. He would need to be registered though.
cool, he is fully registered ( a 'holiday' connie). He is currently out on loan, but just in case, (and I am not home for a month so bored!)
Presumeably it would be fully showing tack?
And here's the big question-anybody know if there are any in N. Ireland?
There's the NI Connemara Pony Association, and some shows have Derby Classes, which consists of a conformation assessment, a basic dressage test and a round of WH type fences
Cool, you sound knowledgeable about this, are there flatwork classes as well ?(he has a jumping limit of around 70cm...and that's on a good day with no ditches etc..he is not your typical fearless connie more your typical stubborn barsteward ;p)

I haven't met a typical connie yet, mine is a complete wimp who hates rain, heat, puddles, ditches ................
LOL!! is he stubborn? I know mine, his half brother, anothe full connie we used to have and a part connemara mare, all withoutr fail stuborn as could be but safe.
And they could all jump (mind clears 1.30m if he has had a look at it first...)
Did try getting a contact no. for the NI connie society but they seem to be still getting the website up and running so nothing yet.
Not stubborn particularly to ride although does get angry at you if you ask something he doesn't understand, but don't try and do anything to him on the ground that he doesn't want done or you'll meet with the front feet waving near your face!
He is a big softie 99% of the time though and just loves cuddles.
Awww I loved my old connemara pony that I had on loan for a few years.
She was the bravest, boldest horse I've ever met and so competitive. Totally unbeatable at mounted games and a demon at jumping. She just didn't understand the need for dressage or schooling though LOL.
Your wee guy looks identical. I will always have a soft spot for them
yes adults can ride connies.
Yes full showing tack
so that would be havana plain hunter bridle with pelham and double for him, straight cut havana saddle. No boots or martingales.
For you tweed jacket, shirt, tie, navy hat pref with flesh coloured harness (has to be harnessed on M&M's), brown gloves, cream/beige/canary jods, long black boots and a brown show cane. No spurs in M&M classes.
I also have a connie, he is brilliant on the flat, suicidal on an XC course and normaly wusses out of showjumping or working hunter at the first fence (he just doesnt like fences that are not solid)! He is the most stubborn pony i know.
this is my connie
its an equitation class, thats why he has the brass browband as well, it was the only spare bridle i had at the time as he had to come straight out of that class and into a showing ring on the other side of the field, he came out of the ring and we swapped bridles quickly.
Mine was 17/18 when I was riding her and she was still a speed demon.
You look much more elegant than we ever did though, I was only 14 and just wanted to go fast everywhere, luckily we were both in agreement
Went to visit her last year and she is now about 26 and she still looks in great condition. She is now plodding about with a little 6 year old girl. She looks like a wee old pony though which is such a shame as she was a gleaming white superstar when we had her!
the best thing about her was that her mane never grew!
It never needed pulled and was always the same perfect length. Have never experienced that before (or since sadly!)
Also have a look at the CPBS website - http://www.cpbs.ie/
A friend of mine breeds Connies so I go to several shows with her as a groom if I don't have any other plans for that date
Yep, they do have ridden classes as well, but be warned... they like Connemaras to be obese...
Yes - here there's specific age classes for the riders (under 16yo and over 16yo). Usually there's ridden connie, Connie WHP, Sidesaddle & inhand classes at dedicated shows & usually ag. shows will hold either an M&M or Connie class.
This is the two we had at the RDS last year (I groom for them)
cool-druid I take it it is similar to other ridden shows ie show, proper way of going etc? jumping is probably def out as would be too big for little diddums,
yours are gorgeous, I would love to do rds one day, maybe not on my boy.
Any tips?
