Hi, new here! Would just like to know if Connemaras are good pony eventers? At novice (1.10m) level?
If anyone has one jumping at this level what are they like and how do you find them?

Thanks

I've never owned a Connemara, but my 13.3hh New Forest mare jumped a 4ft2 (1.26m) hedge with me out hunting yesterday, so I don't see why a Connie couldn't jump 1.10m. I know a few Connies who event, my best friend has an ISP and she's jumped him up to 1.15m. Irish ponies/ horses are normally very good jumpers, and bred for competing, so I think the pony could. But each horse is an individual,
some are fantastic jumpers and others can't even jump 1ft. But in theory, yes, the pony should be able to easily.

I evented a connie up to BE100. He was very competent at this level and would probably have done Novice (and did the BE100 plus's) but it would have been at the top of his scope, with no scope left to get us out of trouble, so I decided against asking it of him. He had (and has) all the heart but "his legs only come up to here" - as Brigit Jones would say.

If you want to go past BE100's, you might want to look at a connie X TB or similar, if you like the connie input?

Good performance Connies can easily do novice. A lot do the pony trials and proper pony show jumping - in the pony Europeans they jump some very big tracks. Like any horse, some haven't got what it takes but if you get a quality performance bred one you will be fine.

Echo the above. A full Connemara can be quite chunky and whilst they are scopey (in the whole), how easily it would be to find a purebred for your spec I don't know. Definitely have a look at conny x tbs - I've had mine loose jumping (I don't have the confidence!) over about 1m50 and she's only 15hh (a smidge under 15.1).

You don't need to find a massive crossbreed, if you want a pony type, my girl looks just like a full conny, cept with TB steam and speed. She's quick, responsive and has a heart of gold. She also doesn't get quite as fluffy!
