Hi guys

Just wondering if anyone could give me some advice, i have a cracking Connie mare and am debating sending her off to stud next Spring.

Shes not the most affectionate of ponies, but shes level headed & straight forward. Everything I'd want in a mini-D except she lacks a bit of boldness that I think would give her a bit more sparkle.

So, can anyone suggest any stallions I could look at that may possibly pass a bit of boldness on?
Obviously, don't want a nutter thats got no sense on my hands... but something level headed but slightly bolder would be perfect!

My only stipulation is, is has to be a Connie..

I'm looking at Fear Bui at the min. He looks smart but I don't know much about him.
Thanks!

My trainer owns Fear Bui, so feel free to ask any questions you like about him!

He's a cracking sort and really does breed top class sporting ponies / horses especially known for their boldness as a huge number of the event (upto 3* level, not bad for half pony eh) and showjump.

Dan (his owner) had a cracking filly from him last week, at one week old she is bigger than a month old TB colt he has in the field, so he does breed them big! But he's produced several international JA ponies at 148.

Dan has a lovely 2 year old by him that he is hoping will be his legacy...

Obviously I think he is cracking, he's got a lovely temperament and really is a mini horse. He's stunning looking, even at 21 I think he is. He's got a lot of mares this year so far and they are limiting him as he's getting on a bit.

Check out the website if you haven't:

www.lowernewbarn.co.uk although the pics aren't great it gives more info about his progeny.

Feel free to PM if you have any questions!

Thanks for that!! Really good advice!

Will have a look at Dark Stranger in a sec.

Fear Bui looks gorgeous in H&H, I'm a bit worried about him chucking big thou! Mare is 146 according to her passport (more like 147-8 IRL) so I don't really want an overheight pony :/
Is he an affectionate type? My mare is a bit stand offish unless she's on her own or wants feeding lol..

I'm hoping to contact Dan to come and have a look at him, but its a fair old journey!

As I say, he's had plenty of 148's from 148 mares. It's difficult because you never really know - Dan will know a LOT more than both of us on this subject and he's very friendly (but very irish, even I struggle to understand on the phone sometimes and I talk to him all the time, LOL).

The filly he's just had was out of a TB mare so will be horse sized but she's really cracking.

Or he does have his 2 yr old son who is slightly smaller than Fear Bui, perhaps will make 14hh, I don't think he is using him to cover yet but might be worth asking about??

Yes he's very cuddly and he knows he is the star of the yard! He really has presence and that 'look at me' factor. I gave him a cuddle on Friday and he insists I sneak him a handful of hay each time, lol.

I'm sure it will be worth the treck, Dan has some lovely stallions there and at the moment loads of extremely cute fluffy foals! One of my mares have been covered by My O My his Holsteiner, so I am hoping she will be scanned in foal soon...

Has he got any glaring conformation issues do you know?

I'll try and ring up later today, but don't wanna waste the journey if I can find stuff out beforehand!

Hi i own Dark Stranger, we have frozen semen available from Twemlows and we might take a few visiting mares next year. We are in Cheshire your welcome to come and see him. He has the most placid, laid back temperament (twemlows loved having him when he went for collection because he was so easy) which he seems to pass onto his progeny. I have some youngstock by him and we have 3 mares that are all due to pop anytime now so you will be able to see plenty of stock. If you want any other info pm me.

My reg connemara gelding (pictured) is by Maam Hill.
Dun connemara stallion and is really lovely!
My boy's dam was grey and he's pale palomino.

There's also Scottsway Stormy Sunset he's advertised on the holdenfold website. He's a bit smaller and you can see him at their open day (details on the website too) and is not too far.

Shipton Teasel at Langaller Stud?
My friend has 2 cracking dun foals by him in February. She's thinking of keeping the colt entire!
