I have recently purchased a Connie X TB who has a very short and slight sway back. This is worsened or happened because in the past he has had a 17.5 saddle on!!
After speaking to my saddler he can only take a 16/16.5 and needs a wide fitting saddle cob or wide variety something that willl go to 2XW and I’m looking to event.

what does everybody use? I’m having a nightmare with COVID and the lack of a short but very wide saddle cautious over a wintec synthetic have they worked well for anyone?
TIA

Lavinia Mitchell for me and my connie.

Before that he had a Thorowgood T4 which suited him fine but I found rather uncomfortable.

All three of my connies have fitted my GFS monarch and all 3 have had different fitters at different times to double check!

Edited to add- the old style monarch not the new ones. Which neither of the current two fit.

Which style was this Michen? I’ve seen a monarch cob think it’s a deluxe second hand online

Ummm I don’t know I just made sure I bought an older one as a second saddle on eBay. You can tell as they have silver or brass screw things instead of the more Matt black ones the new ones have (and they have a flag).

Pic shows the badge of the older style ones.

For a sway back, and I fit a few, I would recommend as flat as tree as possible, as short a seat size as possible choosing a model/flap to suit the rider's legs, and a short or even rounded panel with an upswept shape a the back. Big long gussets on a flat panel are likely to dig in.

She doesnt like your usual connie shape - if you had put what saddles do you put on your TB x horses you might have got some different answers.

Re. The sway back, is it conformational, through injury or lack of strength in the back / abdominals? That for me would determine the type of saddle I would go for. Does she lift her back in movement?

It’s a bit conformational but also I believe after also discussing with my saddler he’s worn a 17.5 for the last few years and that this is also partly why his back is how it is. He’s very wide like a Connie

AH had a looks and seem lovely just big ££ maybe an option for the future
Theres a fair few that come up secondhand on facebook - used native pony saddles - we bought ours for £500 secondhand & I dont call that a lot for a truly GP saddle that actually fits!

Agreed I’d happily pay that they’re £1800 new which is what I meant, I scroll Facebook, EBay and online everyday!

In that case I would be working the horse in hand, pole work and walking out in hand to try and build him back up. If your saddle fitter is very knowledgable they should be able to sort a saddle and padding that will provide the room you need for the back to come up a bit

Currently while I don’t have a saddle that’s exactly what I’m doing just long lining and starting pole work next week and also have physio coming thanks for the feedback
