Hello
I need some help please
I have a 15hh cob, 17yrs old really steady and quiet but not a plod. Really very easy to do in all ways and very very safe so anyones ride. Been out on loan previously to a trekking centre and did some RDA as she was so safe.
I have someone i know who is very interested in buying, knows this horse very well and she wants to hack only.
Horse in question has had stifle surgery as a 6yr old and earlier this year she went slightly lame, injected and since been sound.
I am considering selling as i dont have the time for this lovely mare and i know exactly where she will be going
What would be a fair price 🤔
Thank you

I would ask the potential buyer what they are willing to pay. For me, if I was selling, home would be far more important than price.

Ditto this.

Unfortunately, I don't think she's worth a huge amount with her age and soundness issues (appreciate she's not lame now but injections are usually an ongoing cost with no guarantee of continuing to work & the new owner wouldn't be able to get insurance for them).

If you can find her a nice, long term home that will look after her in her advancing years, I'd consider that a win personally.

I disagree I think there is a value in safe and sane hackers and despite the surgery has been sound for the best part of 10 years.

Usually I'd agree but the horse had lameness investigations & injections earlier this year & combined with the lack of time, I'd be wary how sound they would remain in more consistent work post injections.

It's much more of a gamble than a horse that has stayed sound and in a consistent level of work for over 10 years.

I would agree with a couple of thousand which isn't a lot in the current market.
I'd also agree with others and try and secure the best home for her regardless of price.

I would loan her out to ensure her future
This. At 17 you cannot be sure that a new owner will do the right thing by her as she ages. She may have years of riding left in her but equally she may not and someone needs to be responsible for deciding what happens when she is no longer rideable. If the person who wants her is sensible they will understand why you prefer to loan, when she is no longer rideable you will ve able to decide together what happens next, if you prefer not to make the decision on your own. Honestly you wouldn't get much for her with her possible soundness issues.
