CH has scoped dirty after a racecourse gallop at Kempton today. Hope he is okay and able to go to Cheltenham on top form as his way of hurdling is just amazing.

Trouble with only running a horse annually is if they miss their big day then it’s a whole season gone. 🙄.
I do agree with you in very much hoping he is fine, apparently his gallop at Kempton was well under par.

Statement said performance was a 'big shock' so clearly not a right hoss :(

Fingers crossed he bounces back, do like him!

Having seen him in the flesh at a yard visit he is such a laid back dude. Happy to just eat grass and did not bat an eyelid when everyone clapped in appreciation.

I agree, he could have nipped over to Dublin to pick up the hurdle race there a few weeks ago. I do think he could get out a little more.

Didn’t Nikki Henderson have a horse quite some years ago that he used to bring out just once a year to win the Champion Hurdle? My brain is dreadful about names these days! I always thought they weren’t a true champion if they didn’t run regularly. The popular NH horses are the tough ones that we see often during the season. Having said that, the going this year has been particularly challenging.
Hope CH recovers but it won’t be worth risking him if he isn’t 100%, always another day. Sad as the English need all their best horses if Cheltenham isn’t going to be an Irish walk over!

See You Then - who was then dubbed See You When by the press- he had very dodgy legs, the Champion Hurdle was sponsored by Waterford Crystal then and his legs were often referred to be as fragile as their product

I'd rather see CH not run at Cheltenham and instead target Aintree as what NH said is that he's going to have a week of antibiotics and then see how he goes. I just think how rough I still feel after having a chest infection immediately after it's supposedly cleared up. CH is such a lovely horse I wouldn't want to see him run and be beaten due to being pushed too soon (and as above I've also seen him at NH and he is so laid back)

As for See You Then, I'm also old enough to remember seeing him running on his few appearances. There is a chapter on him in the recent book on NH 'My Life in 12 horses' which is a nice read that OH got me for Christmas.

Sprinter Sacre only ran a few times a year too. Guess it's a weird balance between saving your best horses who are border line freaks of nature and keeping them race fit

Trouble is you see, for instance, the Cyrname v Altior race that finished them both. An amazing race to watch but it was the end of both horses.
Might Bite v Native River. MB was never any good again. NR neither really.
But the Irish seem to cope with actually galloping on a track occasionally.
I have given up my micro shares in the NH horses I owned. He’s really only interested in 4 days racing a year.

Yeh. Can’t see them risking it now even if the anti biotics help quickly.

He was scratched from the universe for a bad scope so I wonder if this was treated at the time but has actually been lingering in his system all this time

Season off? Or punchestown/aintree?

Also as he's not been out and about racing it does make you wonder if there is a bug quietly going round at NH. After all his 2 runners last saturday on ITV racing were both fancied and both ended up tailed off and pulled up.

I'm a big fan of NH and I always look forward to his runners doing well at Cheltenham against the Irish raiders. I do so hope that they will still be able to do well this year, with or without CH.

I know a few people who work for him and they tell me that NH will always do what's needed for his horses (even on the rare occasions when owners can't afford to - he'll pay for treatment himself if they won't!!) so I'm sure it would have been fully treated at the time.

I hope he's ok and recovers quickly, but also that he's not pushed to make it to Cheltenham - I doubt NH would do that tbh.

My syndicate horse is a NH one and wasn’t at his best on Monday…

Oh yes. I agree. Look what he did for that horse (name escapes me….Saint?).

And I don’t mean to imply they didn’t treat it what I meant was that sometimes even with the correct treatment things linger without being obvious. Sorry I wasn’t clearer!

He’ll always do the very best for his horses. You can see that every time he talks about them.

My mum remembers watching Grundy V Bustino, which she believes was probably the best race ever run in this country. But neither of them were ever the same again.

I’d much rather not see him at all for the rest of this year than see him defeated because he’s not well.

Not surprised. Reckon he’s been under the weather without showing it for some time.

Let’s see if they aim for aintree/punchestown or call it quits for the season.
