Hi

I would like to write to the previous owners of my new horse and find out a bit more about him, and wondered if anybody else on here has done this? And what sort fo thing I should put or sort of how do i word it?
Thanks

I wrote to the breeder of my horse. I just put that I am the current owner and I saw from the passport that she bred him. Then I put a bit about what I do with him and why I like him and enclosed a photo. She wrote back saying she was pleased he was in a good home and that she still had his mum.

Give it a try. They can only ignore you if they are not interested. I would think most people would be pleased.

I wrote to Parkers previous registered owners. I hand wrote a letter saying how I'd brought this horse, describing him, including height, colour, markings, age, date of brith, pedigree, temperment. I wrote that I knew from his passport that 'name' of 'place from' owned Parker and then 'name' of 'place' registered ownership of him. I asked them to contact me, with a few quesrtions I would be eager to know (how old Parker was then she had him, his tempterment, what she did with him etc) including a stamped adressed envlope, telephone number and email. I tried to keep the letter nice and postive. I laso included some photos of him too, comformation shot, ridden shot and him happily out in his paddock. One of them has called me back but we're paying abit of phone tag!

I went on Directory Enquiries site and searched phone number for the address I had and luckily it was there so I rang them, she was delighted that I had. We stay in touch and she filled in all the gaps.
I asked her about competion history, health history, quirks, the bit she used.......all sorts. It was lovely to hear about her younger years.

Oh yes, one of mine had such a complicated time! I wrote a letter to all the previous registered owners, even the ones who only had her a month of two and I heard back from all except one, who probably didn't want to hear! They were all wonderful, even if they hadn't got on well with her they were all keen to share how her life had been with them, sent photocopies of letters and prizes from various people and places. They also sent tons of photos. Alot of what they said went a long way towards explaining her quirks which was very handy. In fact, it turned out several owners had regretted selling her and were desperate to buy her back

I did this, the breeder was delighted to hear about him, just put hello I own so and so (beware of name changes?) maybe include a few photos and what not.
I wrote to two and only one replied so yeah..

I wrote to Minnie's breeder who told me all about her dam and sire - she owned both. It was nice to hear that Minnie has some of her mum and dad's traits. They said they would send me a photo of Minnie as a foal but I have not received that yet.

About 8 months after buying Minnie I sent photos and a long letter to her previous owner saying what we had done that summer etc, but I did not hear back. The only thing I can think of is that she was so upset in selling Minnie it was painful for her to hear about her. She had to sell Minnie as she was gonig through a divorce and she had owned Minnie for 4 years.

So yes contact them.

I phoned the breeder up (only the one previous owner who I had brought him from) to introduce myself. She was absolutely fine about me phoning her out of the blue and it turned out that he had been born up the road from us (I knew he was forest bred, and asked whereabouts on the forest his dam was running out). A very worthwhile conversation.

I have always kept in contact with my pony's previous owner but decided to write to his breeder. Unfortunately she didn't bother to contact me back. I was quite surprised.

I bought my boy from a lady who was selling on behalf of the actual owner so I had no contact with the owner when I tried & then bought him but the seller said to keep in touch so, having had him a couple of months, I emailed her an update. She passed my email address onto the old owner who has now emailed me. She said she was very pleased to hear how my horsey is gettimg on & has answered a few questions I had & said she will send some photos. I 'm really pleased she emailed me & she has said she is glad she knows how he's getting on.
I think it's really nice to be able to ask for info on a new horse & most people would probably be pleased to know how a horse they've sold is getting on.
