Ive never taken out contents insurance before, but after chatting with a friend today i suddenly realised how much i would loose if there was ever a fire or something, so ive been shopping around & found some really good quotes, but i was wondering if it would cover my tack or not? Would it be automatically covered or would i need to let them know i wanted it covered as well? If im going to do it i may as well go the whole hog & do it properly. Also can anyone suggest some good companies to go with & also any i should avoid?

My tack is insured with my house contents rather than my horse insurance - mainly because KBIS virtually wanted my tack to be in a bank vault before they thought is was secure enough  but also because it was half the price to put it as a household item. My contents insurance is with NFU (recently switched the horse away from them but that's another story) and the saddle is a named item as it is worth over £400 and regularly leaves the property.

With most policies, unless you specifically name items of value (ie your tack) and have receipts to support any claim, it would not be covered. I used to have household insurance through Hiscox which automatically covered tack and many other things but it was very expensive. Before you buy any insurance, make sure you go through what is covered with the sales person and then carefully read all your Ts & Cs.

Receipts could be a problem as ive owned most of my tack for donkeys years & i never really keep anything like that. Will give a couple of the companies a call & see what they say, thanks for the help :)
