Continental Horse Rescue - Update

It breaks my heart to see those pictures. The trust and kindness that animals offer to be betrayed by people is so sad. After seeing the threads on here I very nearly set up a direct debit to chr but for some reason I didn't and instead donated to Cairo farrier, now I'm so pleased I didn't support the scam and instead supported people that are actually helping

The thing that breaks my hear the most, is at the begging when Suz was a part of the team, these horses were doing well. They started to pick up and the pictures showed a real improvement.
For these horses to go from a life of neglect, to knowing what real kindness, only to be thrown straight back into the jaws of neglect is utterly unforgivable, and heart breaking. :(

Dear God alive.

Quite. :mad::(:(

These photos are grim, poor Rocky is unable to withdraw his penis as he was beaten there, he has had vaccinations and had blood taken for tests. He looks worse than when he was first rescued but he has an incredible will to live so they are giving him every chance.

LLL God those poor horses. Terribly sad :( I was somewhat astounded at the lashings these horses receive (as do the donks and camels). I didn't see it but I wonder if they put nails in the ends of the sticks as the marks on the animals very much look like they have. The trauma to the penis, testicles and inside of the horses hind legs is like something you wouldn't believe. The majority of this is due to the animal being told off for getting 'horny'. Bear in mind they are tethered next to in season fillies and mares so it's not surprising. I saw a draft horse (fully tacked up and attached to the cart - sorry don't know the correct term!) mount a filly when I was there in April. Anyway back to the point in hand - there are so many problems in Egypt that I feel, until the people are confident that they are going to have a government to look after them it is going to be hairy for a while longer and animal charities are unfortunately not on the high list of priority.

Very good point made there, Aces_High. I think that makes the work that the likes of Cairo Farrier, and PFK do, even more essential.
Must be so hard dealing with cases like this day in and day out :(

In the meantime please try and look at the positives and what a minority of people are trying to do in a bid to help the working animals out in Egypt.

Aces High I have the highest respect for those like PFK and the Cairo Farrier guys.....but people like CHR are hindering.....not helping.

Just an update... Rocky and Sheba are on their way to safe places where they can recuperate and receive excellent veterinary care...

They look absolutely appalling in the newest photographs despite having received lovely care at a sanctuary for the last two weeks - they are arguably in a worse state than when they were 'rescued'... :( :mad: :( How they're still standing, I really don't know...

The newest photographs and updates of their journey are in the Equine Rant Group on Facebook...

:)
