To cut a very long story short I am being forced to sell my half of my horse to my ex-partner.

I have agreed to take the amount I originally paid for her and not half of what she is worth now, and he has agreed to sign a contract that says I have first refusal at the same price if he ever decides to sell her.

I am not a member of the BHS so I do not have access to their legal team, does anybody know anywhere else I can find a template for such a thing please?

I don't think this is something you will find a template for, normally you just issue a receipt and that is it, I expect that to be legally binding the first refusal clause would probably have to be done by a solicitor and even then the buyer may be able to get out of it if they try hard enough, if you really want to have a contract it will probably be worth spending the money to get it done properly to try and cover yourself, or word one yourself and get it signed and witnessed by someone you trust.

I'd join the BHS - it's not that much to get appropriate advice for a proper agreement. Otherwise you'll get caught out with an inadvertent loophole.

Spend the money and get it legally binding.

I know this isn't what you asked but do you think its likely that you will buy this horse back or that he will sell her to you in the future?

Assuming she is worth a lot of money now (just the feeling I get from your post) and if you don't think you will buy her back then I would sell her at her current worth. What if she becomes injured or suddenly looses her value?

I would also join the BHS. Get the right advice and go through a solicitor with the right experience. However, there also needs to be some sort of clause that allows you to pay less. If the horse is injured in some way you don't want to be paying the current amount.
