Contracts for DIY Livery

Hi everyone
Does anyone know where I can find a contract for my incoming livery owners please. Have any of you had to sign anything on taking your horse to a yard. We are taking in the first 3 horses next week, and need to cover ourselves, if you see what I mean. thank you
 
I think it's important to have detailed contracts for livery. It covers both you and the owner if problems arise. Things to def include - that you can call vet,farrier etc if you deem it necessary if owner can't be contacted but they will pay costs, yard opening hours and sounds silly but if it's DIY detail poo picking requirements - this can cause loads of problems lol
 
BHS site is a good starting point, you can then customise it to how you want it for your particular circumstances.

Don't forget the "euthanisia clause", i.e. that if the horse needs PTS/emergency arises then you as YO have the right to call the vet (at owners expense) and that the attending vet has the right to decide PTS without the owner being present if they cannot be contacted despite repeated efforts and/or if the emergency needs urgent PTS. Awful, but very necessary IMO. Luckily we've never had to use that here.

Don't repeat Don't ever have anyone on your yard without signing a contract. At the very least it will give you a basis if there is a problem later on.

Include stuff like how many times a day they see their horse, clearly detailing that it IS DIY and that you will NOT be offering ANY livery services (unless you are of course) as to some people "DIY" means "everybody else Do It!".

Be absolutely clear also about stuff like parking, dogs/children, times of access, tidyness of the yard, feed storage. Most importantly state that if the horse isn't kept to a satisfactory standard you will give immediate notice.

Whichever contract you choose and possible adapt to your own requirements - best advise is to get a specialist equine solicitor to check it out so as to check that the clauses are valid. No point in having a contract if it can not be enforced
