I've never had a contract for any of the yards I have been to. What should be on one?and why have one?

Absolutely everything that might cause issues. For example what would happen if your horse colicked violently and your yard couldn't contact you? What would happen if the vet then advised pts and you still couldn't be contacted?
That's an extreme example but as a very basic one: payment terms, when, how much, how frequently, what you get for your money and what happens when you want to move or the YO wants you gone.

Okay thanks. At all my yards its just been an agreement of £25 a week for use of everything
