I've found different things work for different horses.

I've used a dually on my last horse with great success. Current horse completely ignored it and it had little effect on him.

I've had the ones with a solid metal square thing, recommended by a professional rider I respect. I couldn't get one the size I wanted.

Whatever you go with, consider the risk should the horse get free and stand on their own rope.

There is nothing more effective then good groundwork training and doing it every time you lead.

I go one of two ways.

Most of my horses go in the cheap nylon rope headcollars. Trained from the outset. If they were to have a momentary blip in manners then a bit of pressure on that is more than sufficient.

Downright rude ill mannered critters …. I use a stallion chain added to a regular head collar short term BUT work on the root cause of the behaviour alongside.

These Argentinian head collars are very impressive considering they are most likely to be found in a polo yard.

One size fits all, much kinder than a chain or chiffney, gentler than the knotted nylon rope halters, and a lot of control.

There are a few variations and some will have a twist to the leather.

Unfortunately not easy to find but if you look hard online there are a few places. Search for gaucho / Argentinian headcollar.
