How many poos should a horse do in 24 hours? We are on strict weight control, this week I have stopped feeding hay, not quite enough grass coming through yet so have swapped to 2 round scoops of hifi lite + handful of hifi nuts with vits and mins once a day. He is out 24/7. I am a little worried because his poo production has dropped, what there is looks perfectly normal but definitely less piles. I have got him to a healthy weight but I know that any minute the grass is going to sprout so I would prefer to err on the side of caution for now, I am worried that he doesn't have enough fibre going through though. What would be the best solution guys?

Hi, if he was mine I would stop the feed and go back to hay, soaked to reduce the calories. Sprinkle the vits and mins over the hay. This will give him more fibre, and keep him busier for longer.
I have always found that happy horses like to have something in their bellies and something to do. Just my opinion :-)

Our horses are stabled at night so do have hay but they are definitely eating less than they were now that the grass is coming thru and as a result pooing less (which means skipping out for the evening takes a lot less time - yeay!)
