As title really.

I have a 25 yo TBx who gets a full clip each winter as she gets super hairy & still likes to jog & play about wen hacking out so get rather sweaty. (Even though shes 25!!) Iv been told a coolex rug will keep her warm when she cold and cool her down if shes too warm.

Would it be OK to use this as a under rug? I dont want to weigh her down with loads of rugs as she looks & acts her age in the field but is like bambi under saddle!!

You can turnout rugs which are lined with coolex and designed to be put on a wet horse after work so can turn straight out without a rug change so I don't see why not myself

I have one - I find I can only use it for a short period, say for a few hours after a competition

Otherwise it gets too tight on the wither and rubs the shoulders as the coolex is quite stretchy. I'm also really pee'd off as the buckles and clips have rusted, one buckle has rotted so much it feel off!

The shires equivalent of a coolex, is less stretchy so more suitable as an under rug, although may still rub the shoulders a little.

You need the Mark Todd Coolex Turnout rug! It's awesome! I bought one in the spring and I wish I'd bought one years ago!! The problem with using any kind of cooling/wicking rug under a TO, is that they often slip back and pull at the shoulder and rub the withers - with this rug there is none of that and your horse remains cozy once the sweat/water has been wicked away!

well i have a navy one on its way!! we're rather spoiling the ancient TB lol just want the best for her & wasnt sure if shed be too hot as theyr meant to be super toasty right? Shes quite good with rugs so Im hoping to clip her out and used it under a middleweight turnout.

I have a TB with highish withers & made the mistake of putting a thermatex on under his turnout during the snow last year. It pulled back over his withers and although it looked ok at the time, it got very sore & scabbed over & he now has white hairs there.

I bought some duo type liners in the premier eqiune sale last year which fit under non PE rugs too, & they've been great as they're cut quite high at the wither & can be washed in the machine.
