Hi

My horse is generally a very sweaty little man, and sweats up when he travels no matter what the weather.

Can anyone suggest anything to cool the horse area of the box? I already have all the windows open.

My OH is going to look at fitting a fan, but this weekend I am taking him 30 mins away to dressage. Any ideas of anything I can do in the meatime before the fan is fitted?

Thanks

No ideas on cooling the box (apart from getting a fan) but thought I'd share a similar scenario.

Lord ALWAYS used to sweat up when travelling no matter what the weather or how many windows I had open. Last time I took him SJ I forgot to boot him up and guess what......arrived dry as a bone totally relaxed and we didn't hear a peap out of him all the way there! I have always been one of those that ALWAYS boots my horses up to travel .... L just now travels in over reach boots and his jumping boots :)

Wow isn't it weird how sometimes we discover things by accident.

Mine travels with no boots or rugs etc and still sweats like he's just run the National.

Depending on what your box is made of, you could either wash it out generously with cold water or, if the floor is wooden for example, spray a thin mist of cold water for a couple of minutes just before you load the horse in. As you are only doing a 30 minutes journey, the mist should help a lot.

I wonder if instead of him being too hot, he is getting stressed? In the ifor we used to hire oh mare used to sweat up regardless of the weather, in our new trailer (seems a little less rattly inside) she is bone dry, even in this warm weather. She loaded in both so gave nothing away! Perhaps can you borrow a travelling cam so someone can watch him while he travels to see if there might be anything stressing him out?

does he travel alot?
my 7 year old did used to get warm until she got used to travelling

the 4 year old gets quite warm in the box but shes only been on it once on her own so im sure its alot of nerous tension..

my box has windows at the rear, side and back so it gets a nice breeze in there....
