cooling horses legs down after an event, what do you use!!!

I'v just bought Mark Todd cooling leg gel in a spray, any one used this yet!!! new to the Market. Or what have you used!!! also i noticed with a few makes that you have to read the label as some you can't use if eventing, contains some thing that the FEI and racing does'nt like!!!!

I use a headcollar and lead rope...walk em round for 20 minutes to half an hour and let their tendons and muscles cool as nature intended.

we walk them off and then apply staysound (with brown paper and bandages if travelling a long way back)

If you are lucky, and have a river nearby, stand them in the river to cool off. We used to do this with our jumping ponies when we were kids, and they loved it.

If not, cold hose pipe for as long as possible. If it's a nice hot day, my horse loves a good hose down all over to chill out and cool off after jumping. No gunky mess to clean off afterwards either!

ditto^^^^^ may look costly initially but ive had mine for 7 years, works out more effective than potions and probaly over the years cheaper!!!

I sponge water on them several times then they are left to dry before having cool gel (teatree and arnica) applied before travelling home.
If they have run hard over a decent track (3 day or intermediate) then I use aerborn cool boots.

Clay is vile and, imho, should be phased out asap

This Mark Todd spray gel i have just brought is a good price for 1 litre, also has arnica and teatree in it, and you spray it on, then leave it, no need to wash off or cover. just wonder if any one else has used the Mark Todd one yet!!!

As well as obviously walking my horse around until he cools down I use the Mark Todd Icy Leg Gel Spray on my horse legs

Aerborne cool boots work wonders....used them when lame too to maximise cooling / extend hosed time.

i'd love to try something other than staysound as i agree it's gross and it ends up getting over everything but it works wonders on my friend's Arab who competes in 80kms+ endurance.

I used to looooove claying the horses legs up after a race. I found it really soothing and it did wonders for the skin on my hands!!!
