I have just bought Coopers for the first time due to the excellent reviews on here.

However it does seem a bit tricky to apply using the sponge in the box and seems that a large percentage of it gets soaked up by the sponge & so is wasted. Then it is hard to see exactly where it's been applied.

Does anyone decant it into a spray bottle & spray it on? That seems to make more sense to me, and then to sponge it onto the face.

Yep, I spray it, works really well. I can't be doing with all the measuring & sponging business!!!!!! :D

I use it in a spray type container, but make sure you shake it up really well before you spray and make sure you keep the gun bit clean, because if it clogs up or you don't shake before you spray it will spray out in a fine mist but with the odd blob, and trust me it will stick your horses coat like tree sap! and its a buggar to wash out, so try to wash through the spray nosel with water after each use, also if you horse has sensitive skin it will cause irritation, so always do a test patch first before using the stuff.

Brill, thank you, I will spray it on instead now then.

Kenzo one of my horses has very sensitive skin so I put a small patch on her neck earlier & will see how she is tonight. If she does have a reaction will it go quite quickly? I am a bit worried about using it on her but she is the one that is most bothered by the flies.

any nettex fly stuff strips my poor horses skin- as in it flakes and falls off - v alarming!! wereas coopers is fine so you might be ok :)

You will be able to tell after a day or so, as the hair and skin will change, the hair will drop out (not as in bald) but like it's been rubbed, really depends also on how long your horses coat is, usually it effects sensitive TB's because it comes into contact with the skin too much instead of the coat soaking it up.

Uh oh, she is 7/8ths TB & coloured with a fine mainly white coat & very sensitive pink skin. Not sounding good!

However the patch I put on was ok tonight so will have everything crossed for the morning.

I use the sponge for a 14.3hh cob and find that I use just about the recommended amount without measuring. I make sure that I pour the stuff onto the sponge whilst holding it over her back, so that it doesn't get wasted. Then I star by her ears and just keep going until she's covered. Then I wipe the sponge over her face without replenishing the sponge.

Thanks pearlsasinger, I did that the 1st time but felt there was a lot of wasted liquid left in the sponge when I had finished. It does seem to work though & luckily no skin reactions so far :)
