Obviously in the states, wondering what people's thoughts on this are?
For those who do not want to watch the video, the dog, a young rottweiler attacks a police officer in the street. The officer kicks the dog away but the dog continues. The officer then draws his gun but his partner then tasers the dog, who obviously falls to the ground yelping and then high tails it off into the back yard.

Not nice to watch but as the alternative was to shoot the dog, it was certainly preferable option imo. Seems crazy that the dog was returned to its owners really as it seems it has a history of this.

My laptop wont load the video.

If the dog was genuinly attacking the officer I don't see any problem with the dog being tazered (sp?) to prevent injury to the officer / a badly aimed bullet to the dog.

Saying that I know very little of tazering.

As usual we are left asking.... where were the owners??

Agreed! Police officer could have chosen to shoot the dog. WHY they give the rottweiler back to the owner is beyond me! It's people like them who can't train/discipline their dog that they end up blackening the breeds name.

The owners were there LL, they police had just called re reports of dangerous dog. The rottie was chained up but as the cop walked away it got loose and attacked him.:(

6 months old and aggressive enough to attach a fully grown man like that.....IMO Its a pity that they didn't shoot the dog....Would have been a better scenario than him being returned to the owner because he didnt do any damage due to the police officer's quick reflexs :(
Agree it was definitely a justified use of the taser!

I too though "fook me" 6months old!:( that was my first thought, my 2nd was "that dog won't do that again";) and 3rd, that dog needs removing or pts im affraid, no point leaving it in the hands of ass holes like that as someone is going to get seriously hurt. I though the officer brave for reacting so fast. A rotti coming at you at that speed generally does not see someone giving it a cool swift kid, he was cool as a cucumber.
I agree with DG, only I think the dog deserved a tazer and the owner should have gotten the bullet.
