Hi there, can anyone help? my 20yr old shetland has really bad breathing problems,im feeding him an equine america product, but it hasnt helped much,he is out 24 7,and have put him on horsehage,he only hacks out these days but not sure if he should do any exercise at the mo!!? any advice would be good many thanks.

Agree with Lou, sounds like he might need Ventipulmin, he may even need antibiotics if he's picked up an infection. Best let the vet have a look, I'd say xx

COPD is usually caused by mould spores in hay, and it's not impossible that your haylage could have them too. It might be worth soaking your haylage to see if that helps him.
I agree that you should ask your vet if medication could help, and I'd be careful about working him when his COPD seems bad, as lungs are vulnerable to damage.
As a final thought, he could perhaps be allergic to something in his feed, or his environment, too.
