What are the current recommendations?

Beryl is super ticklish and erm sassy… thinking cordless will be safer but wow clippers seem to have gone up in price since I bought any approx 15 years ago 🤣🙈.

Don’t need to be extra heavy duty as I have corded ones for that, to get through the hippo and polar bear fluff of the other two 🤣.

But still want value for money and them not to konk out after 20 seconds 🙏🏻.

Picture of the sass monster in question.

If ticklish and not too hairy would think liveryman harmony would be your best bet as they’re smaller & quieter than full size clippers.

Cordless is way safer and more convenient even for steady neddies - no trailing lead to wrangle 🙂.

I have Heiniger Xplorers which are big but excellent. Liveryman Harmonies are much more compact, quieter and altogether easier than the Xplorers, especially for the fiddly bits - they are my go to clippers.

If I was to choose just one from the two, it would always be the Harmonies.

Another vote for Liveryman Harmony!

They cope with my Fell's yak-like coat, and are so much easier to handle than some of the bigger, heavier clippers.

I have Masterclip Roamers that clip really well especially as I’m fairly novice clipping. They come with two batteries and charger. They are not as compact and light as some of the others though.

Heiniger saphir, a little pricey but I will never use anything else they are brilliant. I have 2 horses that needed full vet sedation to clip and can now be clipped no sedation!

Thank you all! Seems like the same ones are still recommended.

I think I might go with the Liveryman Harmonies (I had some previously that I used to clip my show pony with), slightly cheaper price point and should cope with Beryl's fluff! If mum's heavy duty clippers ever die I think we'll invest in the Heiniger's but for now the others are good with the ones we've got.

I have Liveryman Harmony, which I use for the fiddly bits, and Heiniger Xplorers, which I use for the wide open spaces.

I've previously used the Harmony for a full clip on a fluffy cob with no issues, although the Xplorers do slice through it all a lot more efficiently. If yours isn't especially challenging, I'd go for the Harmony.

yet another vote for harmony plus! my 2 had never been clipped before, and i’d also never done a full clip before, but they made the process very smooth

Update!

The liveryman plus clippers arrived so donned my brave pants and gave it a go! After her initial outraged fury at the thought of them touching her, she got over herself and let me do a wee bib clip!

Going to keep doing little bit by little, though I still think sedation might be needed for her tum and back end… Though I can never tell with her, when I think she’ll not let me do something she can be all cool with it 🤷🏼‍♀️.

Mosler Avalon even cope with a cobs coat on one charge and I took ages to clip as I was never very good at it. But my son did a much quicker job with them than I did! Very quiet too. The clippers not my son. ☺️I did buy some expensive mains ones thinking they must be better, they weren't, so sold them and went back to the Avalon's.

Selling them now but no good to anyone on here as I am in Ireland.

just do a little more with each clip and you may manage without the sedation.
Mine was an absolute s*d to clip with ordinary clippers and so close to being sedated except he is also a b*gger to inject and needs a twitch. So I got the harmony ones a couple of months back. The first time in Sept I did most of him including his tum and bum but not inside his hind legs. The next clip last week I have got even further and far from needing sedation he now does it ground tied in the yard. He could wander off if he wanted, no hay or anything but he just stands and gives in. Very surprised. Very thick coat on the first clip. The harmonies are a bit slow compared to proper clippers but I make up the speed by being able to just plug on without him pissing around.

Well done!

She’s giving you A Look, though, isn’t she, she looks like a real character 🙂.

She is all about the mare stare, full of hormones and sass! I think she is going to be an epic horse, just needs channeling and accepting that I can ask her to do something without it being an immediate no from her!

She came at me teeth and feet on the initial attempt to touch her (after building up to it) with them, re-broke the headcollar and everything 🤦🏼‍♀️. But then after we re-grouped, I managed to touch her with them off, then turned them on and let her touch them with her nose (this was fine, all good to put her nose on the vibrating clippers 🤷🏼‍♀️) and then she was like ok you can clip me now! Still a bit ticklish but I don’t mind going slow, just wish her first reaction wasn’t so dramatic!

Ah shame I’m in the UK and bought some now, but another make to add to the list for the future!

Yeah I’m hoping we can build up and she will get over it, but I can’t always tell how it’s going to go with her! Will keep going, sedation is booked for the 15th Nov so we’ve got till then!

Dave will let me do his tummy & face with the Harmonies now. He would still turn himself inside out at big clippers, but the Harmonies are so quiet & smooth & we did just a bit more & more last year, that now he's not only tolerating, but dare I say accepting.

I live in hope!

To be fair she was the same with my big clippers, but it’s no fun with corded clippers when they’re not a fan!

Hopefully she will learn to happy to be clipped 😬🤞🏻
