I have back problems and they flare up every so often and its a real inconvenience. I have been seeing at osteo to has been helpful in getting me back on track. To help prevent this in future he's set a number of exercises to strengthen my cor and improve my fitness.

Does anyone else do this?

I've shared the exercises in case anyone else wants a go!

I've never done core exercises as such but I've been told by my instructor I have good core strength, but then I go everywhere with my tummy muscles held in, you know how it makes you look thinner? :-) That was always my reason for doing it, I kind of pull the muscles in and hold them down, so not like breathing in as such, more clenching them in - if that makes sense. No idea if it's been good for me or not?!

Oh, now you're just making me feel guilty for not going to the sodding back person!

I have a dodgy hip (cue the 'Old Granny' jokes... hahaha) and should be doing these excercises and visiting the back person monthly.

*Searches desperately for the back person's number... it's been that long since it was called*

I literally couldn't move or even sleep because it was so sore. Husband demanded I grew up and got it sorted out asap instead of moaning for days / weeks.

I think my core strength is pretty good. years of gymnastics as a child has helped but maybe I need to do some more work and build my strength up. I'm going to try!

I've also been intrigued by those John Pitts fit to ride clinics. I know I am wonky and Winnie has an assymetric pelvis so it may be good..? They are about £90 a sesh though?

Just on the rubber mats grip thing, get yourself some cheap metal G clamps from a diy shop. Clamp them onto corners of mat, screw really tightly and voila, carrying handles! (To lift onto wheelbarrow or drag ;)

HA! AMAZING.. thanks for this. Its the worst job moving matting about and I've got to do it all again in a couple of months.. I'm off to diy shop this weekend!!! x

Thank you, I'm really grateful to see some exercises I can do and will print them off. :)

I also have back problems (sciatica) and would like to do Pilates but there isn't a class I can get to. I also know my riding would improve massively if my core strength was improved.

I hope they help. I've tried to do pilates classes too but they are always on during the middle of the day when I'm at work. Theres quite a few on you tube as well!
