Corneal scarring - vetting

Hi all!
I just got a vet's report of old corneal scarring in the eye "linear scar across the right eye cornea". We discussed this is likely to an old trauma - she is 5 years from Ireland - but my vet could not confirm that this would not flare up in future and that in worst case the eye would be removed.

This vision is ok - but I am anxious about going forward with the purchase, in case this is chronic/progressive? Since the vet's report cannot give a 100% guarentee?

Has anyone had a horse suffer traumatic injury to eye/scarring and then had no further issues, i.e. the eye healed and all was fine? Or does it typically - a corneal scar lead to further issues/uveitis?

Thanks, I really like this little horse, but just concerned ??

Eve

Personally I wouldn’t give it a second thought if that was all that was flagged on a vetting. But be aware that eye will be excluded on insurance

My horse injured its eye last summer, healed well and has not caused problems. However vet did say horses with eye injuries are more prone to Uveitis, not progressive in the sense they all will all develop it but more likely to occur than in a horse that has never had eye issues.

Have the people you are buying from had the horse a while? I'd feel happier if they could say that in the past few years they've not had problems with the eye.

Thats really helpful Criso! I think thats what the vet was saying, could lead to increased likelihood.
She was brought over from a clysedale breeder in Ireland, to another breeder here in last few months. But I will ask them if they can find out about her history.
Does sound like it is just a minor risk, and probably not a huge issue

My horse was diagnosed with extra epithelial layers over her cornea, I think there are normally four and she had a number in addition to this but I can't remember how many extra layers.
She's always been a spooky horse which is what this was put down to as it's lack of clarity, particuarly distinguishing shades but I appreciate that this is different from scarring.

Slightly different but my son had corneal scarring as a child. He’s an adult now and has perfect vision, so I don’t think it’s necessarily anything to worry about.
