Corner hay feeder for stable or hay bags?

I feed my horse from the floor mainly because she's good with her hay and doesn't trash it but I am now looking for a solution for my mini shetlands. They share a stable - their own choice - and I am thinking ahead to winter and how best to feed hay in the stable. As they are so tiny I will only be feeding small quantities on the nights when we have howling gales. We are on top of a big hill and very exposed so all my horses have to come in sometimes.

I will try feeding using several small piles of hay on the floor but I have a sneaking suspicion that they will trample their hay into their bedding so am looking for another solution in case it's needed. I will obviously need two 'feeding stations' and wondered about small corner feeders if I remove the existing manager in one corner as they can't possibly reach up to that but I don't want anything too deep or that they could get a leg/hoof hooked over. I have looked at hay bags and wonder if you can hang them low to the ground and if they'd be safe? Any advice please?

On the random occasions I chuck my 2 in together, I tie 2 small nets on opposite sides of stable, rings are set at their ear height, nets which are tiny and are close weave, are tied well up.
I also put 1 pile of loose hay in, which they share happily and this gets hoovered 1st, saving wastage.

Hell again my horsey guru, TFF :D Any idea what make your nets are? I haven’t found any small enough in tack shop or online. Big ones will be too dangerous as they’ll sag and tiny hooves will get caught up. Just setting off to walking group but will check back later :)

Here you go, like these: http://www.tackandturnout.co.uk/Mini-Fine-Mesh-Haynet

A good place to shop for all things small :)
Mind you, mine came from local feed merchants, similar price tho :)

I can just about squeeze a section of hay in mine, needs to be a thinish section at about 4-5lb (no idea on kg as brain non-op at present!) to allow the net to close when strings pulled up. Don't be tempted to shake hay right out and then stuff in as you get lots less in there! Unless they are dieting.... My 2 tinies have 4 nets each, saves a lot of labour in the winter as I only fill nets twice a week :)

you can make easy hay mangers by using a bit of rubber matting cut to their chest height and then cut to a corner diagonal length. this can be secured by using two batons attached to wall so the mat slides down behind them. if they pull the mat out is not a problem

Thanks for link TFF :) Just off to spend a happy half an hour perusing, and doubtless ordering, stuff for the tinies.

HandI, that is a brilliant idea and I have quite a few spare bits of rubber matting so I'm going to try that first as it is cheap and easy :D Might pass it off as my own original brainwave when telling OH what I'm going to do, ha ha.
