Hello.
Aran has a corn. He was sore on monday and had a slight digital pulse so I had the vet and farrier out. They found a small corn which they dug out. He now has a cotton wool pad and boot on and is on box rest. He is a lot less sore now (pawing with both feet!) but I was wondering how long they can take to resolve?
What are peoples experiences, how have they dealt with them and what can be done to prevent them?
Thank you!

No experience with corns but wanted to send him hugs and big, sloppy Springy kisses.
xx

Hello,

Friend has a very big horse that is prone to corns. Farrier fits corn shoes, and ocassionaly the horse needs a little bute if feeling a bit sore.

They can take quite some time to resolve. Has your farrier spoken to you about fitting special shoes??

He is being a bad pony! He's been taking off his hoof boot and his stable bandages! Apparently he is an angel when I'm not about (sounds about right!) but as soon as he can hear/see me there is lots of shouting and throwing of gamgee!
He shall like a sloppy kiss but may bite my nose if i'm not careful!

Thank you for your reply. I have the farrier coming on Wednesday morning to fit a pad and shoe. The farrier is stuck between a rock and a hard place though. He has to fit aran's front shoes tightly or he pulls them and its is probably this which has caused the corn! Some re-thinking is going to be necessary!

Corn shoes can be fitted tightly - they just have a bit cut out of them so as not to put pressure on the corn.

Hope you get it sorted soon.
