Hi All

I have generally been very lucky with wounds and horses so admit I have limited experience with management.
Horse came in from the field 5 days ago with a chunk out of his coronary band and the tissue just above.
No lameness, heat or swelling whatsoever.
I have been cleaning daily with saline, patting dry and applied silver honey ointment. I have kept him stabled as the fields are muddy and conscious it’s a high movement area.
I have attached a photo below. Does anyone have any other suggestions as I feel this is taking a long time to progress

I would have a vet out to check for an abscess in the foot. They can burst out from above but may also need a hole to drain from the bottom so you can also poultice.
Thank you. I’m pretty sure it’s not an abscess as looked like a pretty “clean” cut the day it happened! Photo below prior to cleaning.

Yes! I had this with an old horse, the vet had to treat the proud flesh. I took shoes off and it eventually regrew with no issues, luckily he did it in summer so he was only in for a short while. He managed to nick an artery when he did it which was fun on the long walk from the field.

Wounds there take ages to heal. My pony had one and it took weeks. If it were mine I'd probably send my vet a photo to advise, because you don't want to end up with a lot of proud flesh, or an infection. I kept it covered with a dry dressing and cleaned daily with a bit of diluted hibiscrub if I remember correctly.
