Sounds very strange but I've been away for a week and when I got horse in yesterday it looked as though his coronet band on both hind feet is disappearing.

Just below where band usually is you can pick at the hoof wall and pick bits off. Is this normal? I'm sure I've never seen it before. Did wonder whether its because he's out 24 7 now. Bit confused. Any ideas?

Will take some pics later when I get a minute.

I *thought* the coronet band is like the cuticle on our finger nails, insofar as it changes from time to time in size and moisture levels etc but ultimately the changes don't matter so long as the horse is showing no other condition changes? I will stand (head bowed) to be corrected though!

Ali.. you hit the nail on the head..

Nothing to worry about, the coronet has just 'dried' up a bit due to the enviromental changes of spring.. Dont worry.. it wont 'disappear'
