My friend has just told me in a complete panic that she looked into her horse's eye today and noticed what she thinks is a cyst. She has spent all day looking things up about them and is reading conflicting advice - half the literature says that they are normal and should be left alone, the other half says exactly the opposite, that they are not normal and need to be removed. Does anyone know anything better?!

I would think that she should get her Vet to look at it very quickly, as you cannot be too careful with the eyes.

A friend's horse has reoccuring cysts and has been having them regularly scraped off and now is under the dilemma whether to have a GA to have them scraped off permanently, so that he does not have to keep going back.

Good luck to your friend

Don't even hesitate - vet, vet, vet. Eyes are too precious and too fragile to leave to chance or the internet. My boy had to have an eye removed (after I had a humungous battle to save it) coz his previous owners didn't bother to take seriously a relatively simple conjunctivitis.

If they are the wiggly growths that are around the pupil of the eye then they are normal......obviously without seeing them no one will know for sure, but get her to look at a variety of other horses eyes and see how many others have the same thing. If lots do then you can bet they are the normal harmless growths

But if in doubt, call the vet!!!
