My mare has significant cysts on the corpora nigra on both eyes, and she is rather spooky when ridden in bright light or if she passes along side objects like jump wings, flower pots or dressage markers. She is at her best to ride when it is dull and overcast or tipping it down with rain.

Has anyone had the cysts reduced using laser treatment? What was the outcome and how much did it cost?

Zombie thread bump - would like to know if anyone has an answer to this and if anyone has any personal experience with them?

Our cob has these- they were noted on his vetting when we bought him 7 years ago.

The vet said she had to note them on the vetting, but she would still buy him if she were me, that they don’t usually cause any issues.

I’m sure it’s helped that he’s a sensible sort anyway. He was already out being a PC pony and had fab references from PC and instructors, so I wasn’t too worried. He was coming to do the same job for us.

When she told me I did ring the RVC (our local big horsepital) and they said they could deal with them if it became a problem. I can’t remember exactly how much it would have been I’m afraid.

thank you for your reply!
He came to me with me knowing he has these, having seen them myself and then it was mentioned on vetting etc.
He has been spooky/reactive as long as anyone can remember (all prev owners know each other) so I don’t know him any other way. I think he would still be more or less that way personality wise.
I’m just wondering from a safety point of view - ie what can and can’t he see.

he went to an eye specialist 18 months ago for a proper diagnosis (ie is it cancerous) and they said they weren’t able to tell to what extent it affects his vision. See how you get on...

I’m just wondering if anyone had any treatment stories.
