Hi guys

I just wanted your opinions and knowledge on shoeing. I had a different farrier and he has cut a lot of the length off of my horses toes and they are much shallower now too. He just looks like hes leaning on his heels a bit to me and his feet look tiny (hes 15hh arab).

Do they look ok to you guys and do all the angles look correct?
Would it be better to have horse with long toes or short toes?
What problems could short/long toes create?

Not too bad actually.
I'd probabaly have taken a little more off of the toe,
The heels of the shoe are long, But looks like he is trying o support the heels and to be fair he has done a good jobof safeing the shoes off.

By the shoes and style im assuming this is a hind legs, In which case the horse has very straight pasterns and this may be the reason for lengthening the heels of the shoe.

Clenches are in a marvalous line and the clips looks well set.

Hum... a bit yes.. I thought the pastern was too upright to be hind... In that case, more definatly needed to come of the toe.. Still not a bad job.. Have you got a front view?

Ah.. having seen the bottom picture i have to be honest they look pretty good to me.. Not a bad job at all. I would be very happy.
The hoof axis angle looks better in the bottom pic and the foot looks much rounder.

No expert, but agree with Nailed. I would like to see a little more toe off, but otherwise looks a pretty good job.

From what you describe I'd say your new farrier is doing a better job than your old one. He's using the double clip shoes on the front so he can haul back the long toes you intimate he had before this farrier started work on him.
Good stuff.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I have found the picture below from when he was shod with the old farrier to show you how his feet used to look.
They are a lot different now! His feet used to be much deeper as you can see in the pic below and more in proportion. His feet are much much smaller now, more like a ponys? I prefer the way they look below but as I said I dont know much about correct shoeing.

The new farrier is doing a much better job, he is working towards taking off more on the toe, so that the axis is corrected. The old farrier, although left him with more foot, wasnt encouraging the correct axis from what I can see in that photo. Small feet arent a problem, aslong as they are in balance
