"Correct" Showing / Dressage attire

Bit rusty!!

I'm doing dressage on Sunday, know for this it's plain jacket / white jods.. and it *should* be a white stock? Could I get away with a coloured one? (I really want a pretty one :p !)

I'm hoping to do a showing clinic in April.. I *hate* my tweed jacket, can I wear black or should it really be navy?
 
Showing it depends on the type of horse/pony. The general rule is for show ponies and hacks wear a navy jacket, for everything else wear a tweed one. Black doesn't have a place in the show ring.

Unfortunately, the cash available to splash is approximately *Scrabbles around in her purse.......* £1.87p :(
My bank account is slightly healthier but it's only half way through the month, I can't say I really have a sum to buy a navy jacket, or a coloured stock for showing, or a browband for showing, or a tweed...

Might have to make do with the tweed one that I don't really like :(
 
Buy second hand - Lots of bargins out there ! Or see if you can borrow:)

You need a shirt and tie for showing not a stock coloured or otherwise i'm afraid.

As for the jacket it depends what classes you plan on doing, a navy is really only for hacks, tweed for all others.

So where is a coloured stock acceptable? Just hunting..?

She's a TB so I guess we'd be ROR or Hack!?!
 
I've just checked on BD 2013 rules to see if coloured stocks might be acceptable for dressage and I think (only 'think' though!) that you might be ok with a coloured one as long as you are at a level below advanced. Here is the section from their rule book:

45. Dress
Advanced Tests – Tail coat with protective hat or top hat, or short jacket with protective hat both with correctly tied white/cream stock or tie. Uniform may be worn with protective hat or uniform cap.

Introductory to Advanced Medium Tests (including FEI Junior tests) – Uniform, short jacket or tweed coat with correctly tied stock, white American Collar or shirt and tie, and protective hat.

Accents and additions to any item of dress should be kept to a minimum and be unobtrusive.

So it would have to be white if you were at Advanced level, but lower than that it is just a 'correctly tied stock'. Presumably of any colour!

Here are the rules for jackets:

46. Coats/Jackets
Tail coats and short jackets may be any conservative, dark colour, for example navy, bottle green or charcoal grey etc.. and may not be multi‐coloured or boldly striped. Subtle pinstripes are permitted as are coloured collars and contrast piping to collar, lapels, pockets and vents. Unless entitled to wear them coloured collars registered with the FEI for use by National teams may not be used i.e. the red collar used by the British
team.Tweed jackets should not be brightly coloured or have loud patterns.

Jods/breeches for dressage should be white, beige or cream.

Even though these are BD rules most unaffiliated competitions run using the same rules.
 
I've worn a tweed jacket and coloured stock for dressage (unaff. prelim). I think as long as you look smart it's ok.

Have worn a mustard coloured one with white spots with my tweed jacket and did have a navy with white spot stock to go with my navy jacket.

And I wear beige, not cream jods!
