Hi

I am new on here but I have been reading your threads on bone spavins and their treatment. My horse has just been diagnosed with bone spavins (she is 18yrs); the vet said it is only mild at the moment but recommended cortisone injections in her hocks.

So I just wanted to find out whether instead of giving hock injections anyone has tried using just cartrofen or adequan (or something similar) and what the outcome was? Is using one of these with cortisone better or have people had more success with tildren?

There seem to be so many possibilities out there!

Thanks

Hi there - my vet injected my 21 year old geldings hocks and knees and he did amazingly well from this and now 23 he started to look a bit sore again so we tried a course of Cartrophen injections - one a week for four weeks. I can't say that this helped him tremendously but that doesn't mean to say it won't work for your horse and its always worth a try. We however went back to joint injections and he had his hocks done again about 3 weeks ago to great effect.
