Can anyone tell me the main points about this bit. I'm looking for something to hunt my horse in. I used an American gag at the weekend ad he completely ignored me and just set his mouth so poll pressure didn't work. I was thinking that this bit looks as though it will give him a bit of a jab in the mouth and maybe the curb chain would snap him out of 'hunting mouth mode' i.e. tank! Can't see anything on the web that explains their purpose. Its purely for hunting and nothing else.

One of these?

Yeah - thats the one - looks a bit severe doesn't it but the whole idea is hat I'm not hanging on his mouth trying to brake ending up bumping into 2 or 3 horses in front when I'm trying to stop. Don't want it so severe that he backs of though when we're negotiating jumps and all that. Just want soething stronger than an American gag.

They are mainly used in polo and are reasonably harsh

The port is high enough in a TB / argy pony to apply pressure to the roof of the mouth when you ask for a stop. However it also stops the horse getting its tongue over the bit, without resorting to a noseband.

The Copper roller gives the horse something to play with and in theory should improve the mouthing ability.
