Just a quick opinon poll to see what people pay for their lessons...

If i've not covered a group please post it - there could be millions of levels of experience/qualifications but I went for the BHS route...why not....

I voted for between £10-19 as it's £15. It's a group lesson of only 2. And I chose other as i've no idea about qualifications.
I also sometimes have private lessons but couldn't vote for both but they're £25.

ETA - these are on my own horse at the instructors yards.

very interesting...

i'm interested as i've just been quoted £40 for 1 hour private by two individual places one for AI qualified and some competition experience and the other not AI qualified (I don't think....but need to check...) and just wondered about the average cost and what you get for your money...

and bother I was going to add the question of "on your own horse or school horse" bother - oh well!!

£5 (yes, a fiver!) for a 1hr group lesson with a BHSI ABRS RS Prin Dip Instructor with over 40 years of experience. Varies from being just me to 7 of us. On our yard on own horses. Instructor comes from outside. Am so so so so lucky.

Other thing you have to consider is where in the country you are. I paid £25 for a 3/4 hour private lesson in Yorkshire at a BHS approved riding school and £35 for a 1/2 hour semi-private lesson (2 people) at a BHS approved riding school in Surrey. Both were on school horses and taught by an AI (however I would say the instructor at the Surrey riding school was more experienced both in terms of competition experience and she is also working to get her I this year).

I pay 23.50 *I think* for a shared hour lesson. Of about 6 or more of us, and not sure what qualifications the instructors have.
I also pay 21.50 for half an hour private.

I was paying £28 for a 1 hour private lesson with the yard owner at my old riding school, however their prices are now £33 for a 1hr lesson. Price is the same whether you have the yard owner or a newly qualified instructor but they were all very good instructors up there.

It got too expensive for me and I needed to ride more than for 1 hour once a week, hence why I started sharing horses

£30 for lesson at my yard on my horse - I believe BHSII qual'd. Officially the time for a lesson is 45 minutes - but I don't think I have ever gone less than an hour - one day we went two hours! DOH!

£50/hr, pro event rider. TBH, the price is irrelevant, I get so much more out of it than when I paid £20 for a local instructor, so don't have to go so often. (would if I could afford it tho!) I get a full hour, private, and it's worth every penny.

I pay £35 for an hour with a BHSII at our own yard (North London) on own horse, and he is worth every penny . He has competed and has loads of experience teaching. He is really really good with people as well as horses. He has loads of techniques to help train the horse & rider and never makes you feel incompetent.

Yes you have guessed I rather like him - he has helped us for about 10 years!

£45 for 45 mins private lesson at her yard. FBHS, List 1 judge, competed 4* eventing and GP dressage. I know it sounds expensive but you gain soooo much in a lesson, we only go every 6-8 weeks (all I can afford!) but you go away with so much to work on at home that it is worth every penny.

My instructor is a BHSAI and charges £20 an hour for a private lesson but she teaches 2 private lessons when she comes. If it was just one of us then it would be £25 to cover her petrol to make it worth it.

I've just started having jump lessons with an instructor who keeps his horse in the stable next to mine at the yard i'm at. He charges me £15 an hour for a private lesson but he counts me as a junior as i'm 21 and poor. Adults are charged £18. I dont think he has any qualifications but loads and loads of experience mainly BSJA.

It's £18 for me to join in an hour's group lesson on my pony at my yard with around 4-5 other riders and with a good instructor, I'm not sure what qualifications she has but she has lots of experience!

It depends normal trainer is £15 for half hour private lesson with a BHS II. But I also go for monthly training session with well known dressage lady and think I pay £65 for 45min for that eek.
