Hi,

I'm just trying to work out how much of my insurance cover I have left as horse is now due for arthroscopy op on hock. Any ideas to the nearest thousand how much this may cost?!
I know its necessary and the only option but would like to prepare myself and my savings account!
Thanks

You are looking at about £2500 for an arthroscopy and 5 days iv antibiotics abd aftercare. Hope this helps.

my horse just had arthroscopy on both his stifles at Liphook (which is considered rather expensive) The arthroscopy itself was £1500. he only stayed in 1 day, no IV antibiotics. His total bill was £3200 - that was for lameness work-up, sedation, xrays, bone scan, surgery and 8days hospitalisation.

My horse had an arthoscopy on his front near coffin joint in 2006. The op itself was about £1,200. However I used up all but about £30 of the £5k limit by the time he was signed off 15 months later what with initial diagnosis, the op, 2 casts, check-up visits, IRAP etc etc. The good news, he has been sound on that leg ever since!

This is him less than 6 hours after the Op. Never one to not feel like food!

Mine had an arthroscopy on one hock in 2008. Basic bill for op and hospitalisation was £1,400. Aftercare pushed it up another grand. I think full whack plus IRAP therapy came to nearly 4k, thank god for insurance.

Good luck! Feel free to PM me if you want any info. :)

Jacob had arthroscopy of his coffin joint last April- 2009- under GA, he then had 4 days in horspital before being discharged with dressings/special supplements and the total bill inc VAT was £1768 :)
