Farrier is £16 + £16 travel. Me is zero. We share the load - basically if I'm being lazy he does them, but he's quite happy with my trimming, so often he does one or none.
Mine charges 40 per trim (found out last time that it's only 30 if he comes to trim every 4 weeks), he's both a farrier and barefoot trimmer but will try to keep the horse barefoot.
He charges double what farriers charge for a trim in my area but he's the best.
For goodness sake, stop the "farriers have proper training" its not what the op asks and just prevokes arguments. Most EP are trained to do what they are meant to do
If you hare happy with your farrier trimming your horses then fine, if not get a barefoot trimmer, simples.
If I could get a farrier that actually understands working barefoot then I would have one, the last three didn't have a clue, so I have an EP and she charges £40, more than happy to pay for her time and knowledge ( she spends at least 30 mins per horse, whereas the farriers spent less than 10 minutes )
I'm happy to pay for a performance trim by my trimmer trained by farriers. It is different from a pasture trim (I can do that myself thanks). I also get ongoing help with nutrition tailored to my horse. Plus I know she has 20yrs experience with laminitic, metabolic horses and my horse who was in severe pain last year is in full work... no shoes or boots.
While I know and have had excellent farriers (few in number at the mo but I feel lots are warming to the research made available by farriers in America/Oz) who can do an excellent performance trim (which WAS DEVELOPED & RESEARCHED BY FARRIERS), I know the difference between the two and feel it is worth it.
