cost of being PTS?

RoyalPolo, i noticed that you are new on here, i think maybe you should save opinions like this to post that are debating the way horses are PTS and not post your opinion on a post whereby someone is loosing a much loved horse and has simply asked for advice about where offers a service in that area.
Everyone is entitled to their opinions yes, but there is a right and wrong time to post them.

someone with a gun may miss but not a well know hunts man, i live within half a mile of the hunt kennels and they do not smell at all. if you wish to have a debate on PTS please start a new thread.
 
Hope it goes well Bramblebits. You're right i can be very hard staying with them while they are PTS. Its is personal decsion. My vet only charged my about £60 to put my old mare down, he was a super star & gave me lots of hugs, & although injection was not an option for her as she was a total needle phobic & flipped out ever year for flu jabs, the sound of the gun stayed with me every day for 6 months. If you want to be there or not it is up to you. Big big hugs, be brave, it's always the toughest part of loveing horses.
 
It cost me £30 for the kennel man to come out, shoot and take away my boy the last time I had to do it, I am a hunt member though so don't know if that has any influence on price.

Its something i feel strongly about i dont think if it matters if im new or not im still entitiled to post am i not? Im not being horrible at all. I just stated my opinion on the matter i know it is a hard time for someone i dont doubt that at all but i cant imagine someone just leaving there horse at the kennels to be shot it turns my stomache but its upto others what they do i can't change peoples opinions if that is how there mind is set i can only say is it not kinder to have them shot at home!

And i will add my bit to what she asked anyway and it cost my friend £200 to have her horses body taken away.
 
I'm so sorry you are having to make the awful decision to have your horse pts. I think it is a very personal decision because however you decide to have it done, you have to feel it was right think to do.
I had my boy pts last year when he had severe colic and was unfit to travel so couldn't get him to hospital. He was already heavily sedated so was pts by injection.
He fell immediately and passed away very quickly with me holding him. I was surprisingly calm, perhaps because I just knew I had to relieve him of his terrible pain.
The injection cost about £90 then a local crematorium took him away and returned his ashes at a cost of about £500. I was insured so was able to claim some of this back.
However most folk I know use the local hunt kennels who are VERY professional and the cost is nowhere near what I paid.
What I am trying to say is that whatever you choose to do, it is your decision and although some may say cost shouldn't come into it, it does.
For me, I'm glad I was with my boy but I can fully understand anyone who would rather say their good-byes before the final moment.
