I had a stored pre-purchase blood sample that had been taken at a vetting, sent for a blood screen at Newmarket. The vet charged me £240, and the result came back indicating 'the possible presence' of 2 prohibited substances. The vet told me that the tests were very sensitive, and the probable explanation was 'cross contamination via feed bowls'. If I wanted to determine whether the amounts were 'significant', I needed a confirmatory analysis for the 2 drugs suspected - costing £600 for each one. I did not proceed as the costs were getting out of hand.
Has anyone else had experience of actually testing a blood sample recently?
My experience makes a nonsense of testing blood if this is what it costs.
