4 dogs - Gordon setter, Foxhoundx, Spanielx and Colliex. One bag of "Pedro" (all the collie and setter will eat!!) lasts 4 weeks and costs about £20 so £280 per year. Unfortunately Setter probably costs that again alone in drugs (Arthritis) and the Foxhound x is also drugged (Under active thyroid) but hers cost £2.11 for 3 months supply

Naw but we wouldn't begrudge them their medictaion would we!! Bless!! I'm hoping by feeding Finn correctly/at least with the best diet through his growing phase I will eliminate/prevent any weaknesses/issues in later life

THAT IS ALL PRETTY CHEAP CONSIDERING MY FRIEND SPENDS AROUND £400 a month on feeding rescue dogs in her care!!! this is due to feckless dog breeders pumping these dogs out for money!!! THEN SUPRISE!! THE MAJORITY OF THEM END UP ON THE VETS TABLE READY FOR THE SLAB, COS U GUESSED IT!!! THEY ARE CHEWING, OR THE OWNERS HAVING A BABY, OR ITS TO BIG NOW, OR THEY ARE OUT OF CONTROL!!! AT THE PRESENT TIME SHE HAS 25 DOGS IN HER CARE INC HUSKIES, MALAMUTES SHEPHERDS, STAFFIES, LABRADORS, mostly pedigrees i must say!!
SHE SPENDS EVEN MORE NEUTERING, VACCINATING THEM AND CHIPPING SO SHE CAN RE-HOME THEM!!! SO PASS THE MESSAGE ON, THINK B4 U BREED FOR THE SAKE OF MONEY!!
AND CUT HER AND OTHERS LIKE HER FOOD BILLS!!!
 
Yep - prevention is better than cure! Poor boy is getting on and arthritis is v.common on working setters anyway.

To be fair - I wasn't moaning about the cost!! I wouldn't change my puppy for the world and he will only get the best - if he becomes naughty we will have training etc.

I appreciate that others may not be so 'committed' to their animals... (not aimed at people on here BTW) ... but please don't think I was complaining about cost!!

Your friends sounds like an inspiration and caring women... I agree that you should never have a dog unless you can commit your life to it!! (IMO)

2 Great Danes and a Staffy cross all fed on green tripe and wholemeal biscuit, tripe we buy wholesale at 25p/pound, we go through 130 every 3 weeks and £9.20 for the biscuit which lasts about the same time. Add vitimin supplement and biscuit treats, which again we buy in bulk, so not too much for big dogs, but you're right KJFIT what about the vets bills!
